On the 19th November SCOBA and THE STOKE CITY COMMUNITY TRUST held a fund raising night supporting Stoke Ladies FC and the Community Trust. Star of the night was Neil Baldwin aka Nello.
A packed Waddington Suite was entertained with stories from former players and friends about Neil including a lengthy interview with the man himself with Terry Conroy. Neil’s long standing friend Malcolm Clarke was first up who recounted the story of when he first bumped into Neil back in the 60’s at Keele University campus and how his friendship has lasted to this day.
Former City favourite Carl Beeston was next up to tell Neil that he once bet that Neil would never be as famous as him ( obviously said as a joke at the time ) but who would have predicted that it actually happened, a priceless moment !
John Ruggiero gave the audience his now legendary story of how Neil back in 1977 gate crashed his wedding and how he conned his way into George Eastham’s house in the late 60’s posing as a vicar !! Anton Booth of Delilah fame also gave us a couple of gems.
TC then took Neil on a trip down memory lane which finally ended with his recent Marvellous adventure of the BBC film and Bafta award.
At the end of the day it was all about raising some money for 2 good causes which was achieved with at least £4000 going towards each. Many thanks to Phil Greig for the photographs.
Many thanks to all that supported the night.
